A Boy and his Dane…

Today I witnessed something that I’ve always looked forward to ever since my husband and I decided that we should have a dog grow up with our family. Of course, as parents you always hope that everyone is going to get along within the family unit, but to see it firsthand makes your heart melt. When little brothers hug their older sisters, when older sisters share their favorite toys with their little brothers and of course, when your puppies snuggle with their human “siblings”. This video makes me smile every time!

Happy Half Year With A Little Spring!

Our little Capone is 6 months old now! I went to go weigh him today and he is 78 pounds and getting taller by the day! He can now do things that he wasn’t able to do before..

I can reach the water fountains like my friend Toby

Now if only they could make them so I can turn them on by myself!

I give Mom makeup and hair tips in the morning now that I can see her through the shiny thing!

And I can beg for Lily’s corndog and I dont even have to get up since I’m tall enough to lay my head on the sofa while laying down 🙂

But the funnest part of Capone getting bigger is that he’s learning more tricks and obediance!

It was rather rainy last week, so I decided to teach him more things since we could only go outside for a little bit. It even hailed twice this weekend which was rather rare for our part of the country. So while Capone wanted to do this…

I taught him how to “kiss” and “shake” 🙂 Check out the latest video!

When the storms finally passed, its as if Spring automatically turned on! All the trees in our neighborhood are blooming and its beautiful to go on our daily walks!

Enjoying the break in the weather!

Also, a few weeks back was our good friend Toby’s 2nd birthday! He is Capone’s bestie Dane friend who we hang out with quite often and we were invited to his party at the park. We all got a goodie bag with a treat and a squeaky ball! The goodie didnt last long but the squeaky ball was a hit! We stopped by our favorite store For Other Living Things and picked Toby up some presents! We got him a new dog bowl, a massive rope toy and a doggie biscuit. Here are some pics of the afternoon..

Running up to the birthday boy

Capone was hoping he would share his new toy!

Mandatory crazy-faces!

Rawr!

The Birthday Boy!

All that running wore him out!

We had a great time and it was nice to be able to celebrate with friends 🙂

On a side note, speaking of celebrations.. I made a cake for a friend of mine this weekend for her son’s 8th birthday. He wanted a Sonic cake and of course, I jumped at the chance to make it for him.

Until next time!!!

Sunday Funday!!

Happy Wednesday! Last Sunday I organized a meetup for our Dane group to come check out a new spot that I scoped that was rather close to our house. I have been trying to find good locations to organize some meetups and after visiting it about two weeks ago with the kids, knew that it would be a great spot to invite all of our Dane friends. All of the meetups so far have been at least 30-45 minutes away so it was nice finding an off-leash location that had swimming and open fields to run as well as being only 15 minutes away! It was at the Penitencia Creek Ponds in San Jose and the doggies thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

This week has been rainy and gloomy so it was nice squeezing a bit of fun before the storms came.  This is a picture of one of the main ponds with the bridge to connect it to the Penitencia Creek Trail.

Everyone saying hello

Gorgeous Harvey

Notice, Capone is the only one not in the water…. still not sure about it 🙂

Beautiful Willow

It’s Graycie!! Capone saying hello to his sister 🙂

I wore the wrong pants that day.. my really loose yoga pants that in this exact moment were falling off my hips! Thank goodness I had an extra hand or else they would have been around my ankles!

Gorgeous Molly

After about 15 minutes of introductions and getting used to the water, Laura, a meetup member came with her 6 month old Dane, Milo.  Its as if Capone and Milo spotted each other from across the pond because the minute they were in each others presence they were instantly wrestling, hugging, running, etc. I’ve only seen Capone play like this with his buddy Raja and often his other buddy Toby. But nothing to this extent. Of course, all the other Danes (including his sister) wanted nothing to do with the rambunctious boys so they pretty much played together all afternoon. I have already contacted Laura to have more playdates with Milo because these kids were on a roll and after the incredibly long nap he had after we came home, it was well worth it!

We stayed for about an hour and a half and everyone was relatively tired. Josh was watching the kids so it was nice to just be able to spend time with Capone and give him my complete attention.  Which means he was on his best behavior because I’m usually pretty strict with how he walks on his leash, his heels, sits, etc. whenever its just him and I.

This is what I came home to…

Capone isnt the only teething baby on the block 😦

But after some Baby Orajel and some lunch…

The boys were right as rain 🙂

Speaking of babies.. I completely forgot to post up pictures of a little playdate we had a few weeks back.. it was with a friend of mine that just got a new Dane baby and he was SOO cute.. how precious is this?

This is Clipper and he was SOOO cute!! Of course, Capone was way too big to play with him but he was brave enough to let Capone get really close to get a nice sniff.

I cant believe that Capone was ever this tiny. We’ll see in a few short months how fast he’ll grow!

I often say that about my kids since you see them every day its not often you sit back and realize how big they’ve gotten until you see a picture or video of them and realize their growth. I took the kids to a little amusement park the other day and Lily wanted to get on the “big kid” rollercoaster. Since I had a cranky teething boy on my hands, my friend Tara went on the little rollercoaster ride with Lily.. check out her expression..

Even though she looked terrified she loved it!

I finished up the weekend by picking out a bridesmaid dress for my brothers wedding. I got to pick the style as long as it was a certain color and fabric choice. I wont tell you what color the actual dress is going to be (Shhh its a secret) but here is a picture of the sample dress style that I ordered. Dont mind my untanned skin and the bruise on my shin.. it was a head on collision with Capone 🙂

Now this means i have to lay off the ice cream and the chocolate!

 Until next time! Snorezzzz….

Cats & Dogs.. Part 2

In my previous post, I was wondering out loud if Capone and Pepsi were ever going to get along and I’ve caught a glimpse of hope!! Not only is Pepsi no longer in SUCH a hurry to leave the living room (where Capone usually hangs out) but she’s tolerating and perhaps trying to work out a common ground with him. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still quite a few hissing and swatting at him, but it seems as if Pepsi is curious enough to want to stay and check things out rather than just making a mad dash to get out of his sight. I caught a video of them trying to sort it out so to speak…

After a few minutes, she came back… but this time Capone just wasnt interested in bugging her.. progress!!! Instead we practiced more of our “Shake” commands 🙂

As soon as Capone stopped paying attention to her, they finally settled down and Capone let Pepsi have some of the sunlight..

Should I make a fuss and sniff at her?

Nah.. I’ll just take a little rest..

/insert me doing my happy dance!!!!!! YAY for small victories 🙂

Fighting like Cats & Dogs!

We have had Capone for 4 months and I’m wondering if he and Pepsi (our 12 year old Sphynx kitty) are ever going to get along! It pretty much goes like this..

Pepsi creeps out of our bedroom and hallway to the living room where she has to walk through it and leap over some baby gates to get to her food and water that is in the kitchen. She slowly creeps into the living room, waits to see if she has Capone’s attention… oh wait.. hes napping in the sun.. maybe she can get his attention.. oh yes, lets just slither on over to him and do a casual meow.. just to make sure he’s paying attent… (insert clumsy Great Dane getting up on his feet and charging at Pepsi).. Pepsi hisses and swats at his face and then makes a scramble to the kitty door within the baby gate before she triumphantly trots on over to her food bowl while Capone eyes her like a hawk through the gate or just beyond the threshold if the gate is open (Thank goodness he knows his boundaries).

So that happens like 10 times a day and while he’s pretty good at the “leave its” and “come” so that he doesnt instigate it, Pepsi does just as much if not more instigating!! I’m hoping they end up looking like this one day.. one could only dream 🙂

Instead he pretty much looks like this..

There’s that kitty!!

She’ll come back through the gate sooner or later!!!

I might as well get comfy.. so close yet SO far!

The torture!!!

So for your listening enjoyment.. I dedicate this song to Capone.. his official kitty chasing anthem 😛

Hello Again.. San Francisco..

It’s been about 10 years since I lived in San Francisco and a tiny part of me misses the hustle and bustle of the city and all of its excitement. I’ve been a DJ for about 15 years now and back when I would have 2 or 3 gigs a weekend, it was the best place to be and work. Obviously, my life has changed and I have my beautiful family now. So of course, visiting always brings back that wonderful nostalgia of living in that wonderful city. We had a Great Dane meetup in SF last weekend so I jumped at the chance to go and take Lily and Capone to visit one of my favorite places there, Fort Funston.

Its right off of PCH (Pacific Coast Highway/Highway 1) and is on the southwest side of SF near Ocean Beach. It’s one of the few places that allow off-leash dog access at a beach and it was my first time going with both kids.

I also picked up my brother, Gabriel, who lives in the city and it was so nice for Lily to spend some time with her uncle at the beach 🙂

After a very short 10 minute drive.. we drive into Fort Funston.

Boy, was it crowded when we got there! There was already quite a few people in the parking lot but it wasnt hard to spot the Danes waiting to go down the dunes to the water. There was even some fantastic hand gliding daredevils flying overhead which fascinated Lily.

The weather was beautiful with absolutely no clouds in the sky. They did creep in soon afterwards. Chilly? Yes of course but it was so worth it! I used to live about 10 minutes from Fort Funston in the Sunset District and we only got 4 or 5 non-foggy days in the year so this was such a welcome treat for everyone im sure.

We were greeted by everyone and it was so nice starting to see familiar faces. Of course, Capone was loving every second of it and making sure to say hello/sniff everyone.

Everyone getting acquainted

Once everyone was there, we headed down the trail to the ocean. It was about a 10-15 minute walk (depending if you were holding onto Capone’s leash or Lily’s hand) and the entire trail was tree-lined with gorgeous smelling eucalyptus trees. The smell reminds me of my brother who used to collect the little seed pods when we were kids.

View to the right of the trail with Sutro tower in the distance.

Towards the end of the trail at the clearing of the eucalyptus trees. We can see the sand dunes!

My little 3 year old legs cant keep up with those long-legged Danes, Uncle Gabe!

We made it to the beach! Now, time to go down the steep sand dunes…

… after of course I let Capone off his leash before he drags me down the side of the hill!

We made it to the beach!!

It was Capone’s first time at the beach and on black sand!

Duke coming up to say hi. I love seeing all the Dane footprints everyone was leaving 🙂

Capone had a blast! A little apprehensive to actually head into the water but he loved running up and down the wet coastline!

Gorgeous Delia checking out the waves

Charge!!!

Lily even got some help digging her sandcastle from Delia and Molly 🙂

But they helped a little too much and made the hole as big as Lily 🙂

Capone even enjoyed a little sand dune climbing

After about two hours, everyone got a bit tired and we all headed back up the sand dune hill and up the trail to head back to the cars..

You mean we cant stay here forever????

Poor Delia looked so sad that everyone was leaving. Her human, Carolyn reassured me that this was her normal look but that it definitely works for her advantage to get what she wants. Hee hee!

Gabe showing Lily the Fort Funston tunnels before we head to lunch.

Well, we said our goodbyes and until next times and we headed into the city for something to eat. Lily suggested sushi so who were we to say no! With Capone happily snoring in the back of the Sequoia, we headed into the city for some sushi. We decided on Nagano Sushi off Geary and it was wonderful! I tried a roll called the “No Name” roll and it was delish!! Salmon, in a tempura fried seaweed roll on a bed of teriyaki sauce.

Can’t forget the seaweed salad!

Waiting patiently for her miso soup and white rice 🙂

What a fun day we had! After lunch, we said goodbye to Gabe and headed back home.

oh yeah, and I actually remembered to have a picture taken where I was in front of the camera too!

The sign of a good outing! Hope to return to Fort Funston again soon!
