Out With the Boys

It was bath day and Capone, Lo and I headed to our local PetSmart yesterday for some good ‘ol bathtime. I really like that they have an amazing pet washing center that’s really convenient for big doggies that don’t want their baths outside with garden hoses and only the option of really cold water. Capone just isn’t a fan of water to begin with (unless it comes out of a water fountain) and when he feels the lukewarm water, he relaxes and seems to enjoy himself a lot. Not to mention my tub is just way too small and I don’t have a removable shower head. ย So Petsmart is now our bi-weekly outing either on Tue or Thursday whenever Lily is in preschool. One less child makes a world of a difference!

He enjoys any outing really, especially since he loves sticking his head out of the window of the car, but especially to any pet-related location. The employees are starting to recognize him at the PetSmart store and Capone makes sure that he goes up to every employee there to get love (especially since he knows they all wear treat bags so he can show them his best “sit”).

While on our way to the grooming center, one of the employees that we had met the last time we were there, let us know that they had gotten some really cute leather collars in that week including blue leather ones. I had been looking for a blue leather collar for Capone now that the one he has fits him a bit snug. I promised to take a look and we went to go get beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh but first things first.. we had to stop by the rodent section. The boys are obsessed with any rat-like creature and who could blame them.. the hamsters and chinchillas were so precious!! Something about their beady little eyes make them so adorable. Logan laughs his head off whenever he sees them in the hamster wheels. Capone just stares and tries to follow the very fast critters..

They were fast little guys!

Once we were all done we stopped by to check out the collars. I’ve been meaning to get Capone a nice heavy-duty collar but can never find one that has the double stitch detail, the right thickness, and that is the nice navy blue that I’m looking for. Also, is it me, or do all the thick heavy collars all HAVE to have spikes on them? Or some sort ofย ominousย looking grommets that would look more appropriate on a biker helmet? Lo and behold, we reach the collar aisle and wow, it’s truly a collar aisle!

Capone liked how the metal collars sounded when they clinked together. He kept pushing them with his nose ๐Ÿ™‚

After a few glances at the different collars I found it.. the perfect blue, leather, double stitched extra long collar that I’d been looking for!

This particular Petsmart has a vet office in their store so I love having the option of being able to weigh Capone anytime I want to instead of having to make a trip to my vet since I can no longer carry Capone and find that out for myself on my home scale. And the survey sayyyyyyyss…….

He broke 100!! To think that Capone is going to outweigh me in 15 pounds is kind of crazy and awesome at the same time!

When we got home I couldn’t wait to put on his new collar ๐Ÿ™‚

Leather smells good!

How do I look??

Woof ย Woof! Love, Capone

To New Adventures…

Hello Again!! Its been a good week and half since I have come to visit my blog ( I always like to post an update every three or four days) and its literally because I’ve been tied to my sewing machine! A few posts ago I shared that I was starting to make reusable totes, and the coolest thing has happened.. I’ve had the opportunity to sell them at my favorite pet supply store, For Other Living Things.

It all started about three weeks ago when I saw that they had stopped giving out plastic bags at that store and I mentioned that I had started to make a tote bag project. Interested, their sales rep asked me to make a few to bring them by so that she could check them out. Being that it was Mother’s Day weekend and allergy season was in high gear, there were plenty of distractions and cold/allergy symptoms to push back the project. As I came in a second time to replenish Capone’s trachea chew treats, I was reminded again to have the bags be brought in so off to the fabric store I went.

I decided to get a variety of colors and prints but focused on pet themes. I wanted to make at least 15 in two different sizes as well.

These are just a couple of examples of the pet themed fabrics I was going for.

I also knew I was going to be working in my kitchen a whole lot so I invested in another baby gate ( I had since taken down the other permanent one because Capone was very good at not crossing into the kitchen) however, Logan was going to be a problem since there would be a plethora of pins, needles, bobbins, thread that I knew he would love to get his little chubby hands on. I did want a gate that could be “pushed” out-of-the-way if need be so I got this really great deal on a pet gate that is an accordion swing out style that expands when I need it and tucks away nice and neat when Logan is either napping or has gone to bed for the night. ย But also keeps Capone at bay in case he wants to succumb to temptation and go rummaging in the trash can like I caught him doing one night! 10 more minutes of trash digging and this is what I would have encountered…

Hee hee.. so the baby gates work for both “boys” to have them obey the rule at least until they get a bit older ๐Ÿ™‚

Mother’s Day had just passed and Josh had bought me this really beautiful bird bath that he promised to put in our front lawn. The backyard is more for Capone so I wouldn’t dare put anything back there that is fragile or could possibly get knocked over or chewed. ย So while I was doing this…

Josh was ย busy all weekend putting up my new bird bath and planting some beautiful plants ๐Ÿ™‚

Cant wait for all the plants to grow bigger and bloom!

While all this activity was going on Capone was happy to stretch out in the hallway (his new favorite spot) and snooze the day away. The kids were at my parents house so he was happy to have an empty house and the whirring of my sewing machine to lull him to sleep ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally finished early Sunday afternoon and boy was I happy that all the hard work paidย off! I was really pleased with how they all come out. Here are some of the bags..

The scorpion themed bag was my favorite!

Here is the entire lot ๐Ÿ™‚

I even created a little tag for the merchandise. I put Valbagz as a temporary name, I am currently trying to figure out a nice catchy logo to name my project. Any suggestions are welcome!

Its nothing fancy but at least it tells people that it was handmade and that I am a pet lover ๐Ÿ™‚

So my appointment was on Monday and it couldn’t have gone any better! To make the long story short.. before the meeting was done, shelf space was made and voila.. it was already displayed!!

I was so happy! I couldn’t stop smiling ๐Ÿ™‚ Forgive the tired look.. I was literally running on 4 hours of sleep because I was up tossing and turning the night before! I really WAS very excited. Sure I’ve made other things in the past for people, costumes, cakes, diaper cakes, baby blankets (I’m a little too crafty for my own good) but this is the first time any of my stuff has been in an actual store. I so appreciate the gals at FOTL for taking a chance and being open to my creativity! Like I’ve said before, def go check this store out, they are amazing and now there’s another reason.. to go buy my bags!!!

With all the excitement I almost had forgotten that Capone was about to turn 8 months old today!! Its my Dad’s 65th birthday today too (Happy Birthday Dad!) so everything got a little hectic for me over the past few days. This morning I did remember and let Capone snooze a little in our room before the kids got up as a special treat. Remember how we have a baby gate in the hallway blocking our side of the house to his side of the house? Well he usually presses up as far as he can to the babygate before we get up or else he’ll come torture Pepsi who sleeps in our room. But since it was his 8 month birthday I let it slide!

Happy 8 months Capone!!

Uh oh.. he spotted Pepsi

but only came up for a good morning sniff hello ๐Ÿ™‚

For being such a good boy with Pepsi, I gave him his present right away! I bought him the biggest rope toy I could find. Boy was it heavy!

He LOVED it!! He also got the clue that he could play tug of war with it, which we haven’t really let him play at all since we wanted to teach him to “drop” an item without being too possessive, but since he has the drop command pretty down, I thought it would be fun for us (not to mention a good bicep workout) to let him play tug of war once in a while with his new toy. My daughter Lily, really wanted to join in the fun and after a few warnings of possible failure on her part, she bravely tried to play with Capone.. here’s how it unfolded..

She went down hard!! Completely hysterical with laughter though, and sweet Capone dropped the rope and came over to sniff if she was okay.

And then came over to me to let me know that he didn’t mean to push down his little human ๐Ÿ™‚

It was certainly good exercise for him especially since he slept through his usual daily walk routine ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope everyone has a good rest of their week!

Until next time…

Feelin’ Hot Hot Hot!!

Summer is coming!! We just survived our first heatwave of the year and although we now have our AC unit up and running, the first day while it was still in storage was brutal! Poor Capone was so hot and non-motivated that the only thing he wanted to do was lay on the cold tile!

Here in the Bay Area we dont get extreme differences of weather from one day to the next so whenever it dips a little down or heats up a little above what we are comfy with, we all start complaining and agonizing over the weather gods torturing us! ๐Ÿ™‚ I tried giving Capone a reason to cool off with some water but he didn’t want anything to do with the hose and stayed clear of the splashing children!

He did however, really enjoy the fans and had a good time chewing on a little portable fan I got for the kids…

Pepsi, our Sphynx was LOVING the hot weather! Usually she is curled up under a blanket all day but she actually got out to come out to play!

That night, I made it priority for Josh to bring out the AC unit and we were all so much happier!! Granted, our electricity bill is going to be a dagger in the side but its worth it not having that uncomfy feeling of going to bed feeling hot and miserable!

ย Instead of playing outside we stuck with doing indoor activities for the first day because it was so nice being in the cool house…

Like making forts out of the couch cushions ๐Ÿ™‚ Although Capone was a litle upset he couldn’t actually go inside and enjoy himself.

And getting some good naps in ๐Ÿ™‚

I would say the only person who didn’t enjoy the AC unit blasting away was Pepsi. ย She pretty much disappeared once the house started to get cooler and I only found this peeking out from under her usual blanket…

Its amazing to me how much she can tolerate the heat. It could be 90 degrees outside and she still wants to be completely buried underneath a blanket. I swear sometimes I’m afraid she’s going to have a heatstroke but thats the way she’s always been. I guess if I was completely naked too I would want to be underneath some sort of cover as well.

As far as the relationship between Capone and Pepsi (remember I was worried that they would never get along?), well it really hasn’t gotten any better and he still tries to chase after her. I think its affecting her because she is avoiding coming out of our room because she doesn’t want to be chased. So much so, that I caught her drinking out of the toilet!! Just so that she would avoid the kitchen, where her food and water is! We have a baby gate at the end of the hall that divides the house between kitchen, living room and kids room, and then the other side is bathroom, and our room and a little area where her kitty litter is. Sometimes, Capone stands at the front of the gate so that he can wait for her to jump out so he can chase her down the hall. Poor thing is old, so I’m worried that it will really hurt her if she has to hurry to climb the baby gate with a huge Dane puppy running after her. We’ve tried to encourage him to leave her alone but some days are better than others! I did snap a cute picture of him sniffing her (thats all he really wants to do to her) before she got too crabby and left.

I know he doesnt want to hurt her, he’s just a big puppy that wants to play with an old, cranky kitty ๐Ÿ™‚ Here he is just being the silly guy that he is..

Hopefully the gooffiness only continues with the singing.. not the kitty chasing!!

BTW.. Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful day ๐Ÿ™‚

Mom’s Weekend Off!!

I celebrated my 32nd birthday yesterday and instead of presents or a big party there’s only one thing I asked for.. a weekend OFF!! Meaning a weekend where I wasn’t on “mommy” mode so that I could enjoy some of my favorite things.. sewing, playing video games and organizing! Yes, I’m a bit OCD and a weekend of organizing my walk-in pantry sounds like a slice of heaven. Of course, with two little ones.. well.. two littles ones and one big “little” one makes it tough for me to get alot of alone time. And since we were bogged down with the flu and Josh was out of town, I haven’t had a day off so to speak in about 2 weeks.

So last Saturday, my wonderful husband took our two kids to the park and left me with Capone for a quiet afternoon. Well, as quiet as you can get with jumping up and down in front of the living room. I’ve been wanting to start this adventure video game called Kinect Adventures on our XBOX 360 game console that includes lots of physical activity. Boy was I sweating like crazy after only 30 minutes. It was so much fun! I’ve always felt a little guilty sitting down in front of my computer and geeking out for 4 hours especially since it always revolved around having a plastic take out container full of some fattening concoction my husband and I would crave during our gaming sessions. So if I can involve a little exercise and playing video games to boot, then count me in! Of course, Capone looked at me like I was crazy and kept sniffing me to see if something was wrong. How can I explain exercise without going anywhere to my curious puppy?

Hee hee.. his expression and the way he was looking at me the whole time I was doing it made me giggle through most of it! Oh and the items on the furniture was because earlier that day I had caught him trying to sneak a bit of his rump onto the sofa now that hes tall enough to lean back and enjoy a little bit of cushion. I also had my socks on because I wanted to just slip on my shoes after I had a 30 minute warmup and take Capone for a little jog. Well my warmup wore me out!! SO we did more of a power walk since I was so tired after the game!

Afterwards, I decided to start on my reusable tote project. My city is really cracking down on eliminating plastic bags in the community since they arent biodegradeable and bad for the environment and is charging consumers everytime they need a bag or just refusing to provide any altogether. Which is fine with me since I have all of this GORG fabric material and a lovely 6-pocket pattern dying to be made ๐Ÿ™‚ Of course I had my helper who made sure not to step on my fabric but was always there to lend a paw…

Here are my finished products.. a mini tote, a medium tote and a large tote/beach tote.

I also made a much simpler Market-style bag as well

I’m super happy with how they turned out and lo and behold I already have three orders to do for Mother’s Day which falls on the 13th of this month.

The following day, we had some work that was going to be done on the house so we didnt think it was a good idea for having strange men come to the house because it would freak Capone out (he’s still leery about some strangers especially men sometimes) so my husband continued his birthday wish command and took the kids and the dog to the beach so that I could have yet another craft day.. ALL to myself.

We recently got tile work put in and the baseboards needed to be installed so voila.. here is a pic of the finished work…

And we were having all of our ivy taken out of our backyard because it was choking all of the other plants. I’m happy because Capone had a habit of chewing on all the vines and bringing them into the house! It looks much cleaner now and it spares me more room to plant other beautiful flowers!

So while I was sewing/organizing and our house was getting a fresh polished look, Josh and the kids took a little trip to Seabright Beach.

Seabright Beach is about an hour south of us and is a well known doggy friendly state beach. It’s next to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and is really pretty if you have nice weather. It was a bit foggy when they got there so thats why Josh said that it looked like there was a dust storm behind them in most of the pictures. Thank goodness we always carry hoodies in the car!

Driving Highway 17

Can I play with that doggie?

After a nice ride back home..

Everyone crashed out ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are a few pics from my bday dinner..

To another year!!

Until next time ๐Ÿ™‚
